Located in Old College Hall, an 1850 structure on the campus of Pacific University<= /st1:PlaceType>, the

Pacific University Museum is dedicated to the history and cultural influ= ence of this pioneer

e= ducational institution.&= nbsp; Chartered by the Territorial Legislature as <= st1:PlaceName w:st=3D"on">Tualatin Academy in

1849, Pacific University is the second oldest university in Oregon. The exhibits interpret

i= mportant people - trustees, presidents, faculty and alu= mni - as well as special academic

p= rograms, events, traditions and campus buildings.=

The two exhibit galle= ries are located on the second floor of the historic building.  The

South Gallery  contains<= span style=3D'font-family:Arial'> exhibits on Tabitha Brown (one of Pacific's fo= unders and official

"Mother of Oregon"), S= idney Harper Marsh (Pacific's first president: 1854-1879), the<= /p>

Morse Brothers (inclu= ding telegraph instruments from Samuel F.B. Morse), and Pacific's

m= ascots - Boxer and Badger.  The North Gallery covers sc= ience education (when Old

College Hall was know= n as Science Hall) and Pacific's long association with foreign lands<= /span>

t= hrough missionary service and educational work.  One panel describes three Japanese=

s= tudents who graduated in 1876.  One exhibit case is devoted to for= mer student A.C.

Gilbert, the toy maker famous for inventing the Erector set. Also, in a special area of the

g= allery, visitors may browse copies of the Heart of Oak  yearbook dating back to 1894.=

Two rooms located on = the first floor are also open to the public. The Tualatin = Academy

Room, furnished in 1890's antique decor, is used as= a meeting space for students and

f= aculty. The Price Memorial Chapel is used for weddings and memorial services primarily,

a= lthough it also serves as a program area during special events.

Old College Hall is l= isted on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest

f= rame structure in Forest Grove and the earliest sur= viving college building in the Pacific

N= orthwest. It is a valuable cultural resource and every e= ffort is made to preserve it for

f= uture generations.
