Country Road Tour
& Springhill-Wapato Loop Map

The Country Road Tour (in
red) is level,
8.5 miles long, and rated
"Easy" or "Beginner"
Start at Cafe Bouchee on the corner of
Pacific avenue and Main Street. Head south on Main, turn left on 18th and
ride east until you hit Maple. Turn south and cross Hwy 47. The road name
changes to Fern Hill Road and travels south past the city's sewer plant and
the Fern Hill Wetlands, winter home to thousands of migratory birds. Once you
cross the highway, you are immediately surrounded by farmland.
Ride about 4 miles to a junction with
Springhill Road, turn right and travel back towards town on Hwy 47. After a
brief time on the highway, jog right onto Anderson Road, which goes through an
old farming community. Stay on Anderson Road and cross the highway bypass.
You will be on Old Hwy 47. travel northeast on this road , then connect on
Hwy 47 which you'll follow back into town. (Although Hwy 47 does have
heavy traffic, it also has a very wide shoulder and excellent visibility)
The Springhill-Wapato loop
is mostly level,
23 miles long, and little
more difficult than
the Country Road Tour.
Start at Rogers park and head east on 18th
St. Turn left on maple, cross the Hwy 47 Bypass and travel south. the road
becomes Fernhill Rd. Wide south on Fernhill about 4 miles and turn left at
the intersection with Spring Hill Rd.
Follow Springhill south through East Gaston
and past Laurelwood Rd. and Flett Rd., crossing the valley on your right.
Turn right on Flett Rd. over the low hill. Turn right again (north) on Hwy
47. The highway has an excellent shoulder for riding single file. Pass
through the town of Gaston and the turnoff to Hagg Lake.
Continue on Hwy 47 to Elm St. Go left on Elm
for 6 blocks and you're back at Rogers Park. (Or at Elm, you might turn ride
for a well deserved sip of Sake at the Sake One tasting room)
Hillside Ride Map
The Hillside Ride has easy
hills, is 30 miles long,
and is rated "Moderate"
Start at Rogers park and head south on Elm to
the Hwy 47 Bypass. Turn left on the bypass to Fern Hill Rd., then right on
Fern Hill and go about a mile to Gieger Rd. Turn left on Gieger and ride past
the Fern Hill Wetlands to LaFollett Rd.
Turn left on LaFollett to Golf Course Rd. and
north (left) on Golf Course Rd. which you follow into Cornelius. Go straight,
crossing Baseline and Adair, northbound to Davis St. Turn right on Davis,
then left on Susbauer Rd. At Zion Church Rd. turn left and ride to Kerkman Rd.
Turn right and follow Kirkman to Harrington
Rd. and continue westbound into Roy. Turn left on Roy Rd. and pass the old
depot. Turn right on Greenville Rd., ride 2 miles to Hwy 47, which you cross,
and continue to Kansas City Rd.
Left on Kansas City Rd. about 1/2 mile to
Clapshaw Hill Rd. Turn right on Clapshaw Hill and ride up the gentle hills to
the old church. Turn left on Hillside Rd. (a good downhill to reward your
climb) and follow Hillside as it rolls up and down Thatcher Rd.
Turn right and follow Thatcher Rd. into
Forest Grove where it intersects with Gales Creek Rd. Turn left and follow
the main road into town. At C Street, turn right to 18th Ave. turn ;left on
18th, ride to Filbert St. and Rogers Park.
Hagg Lake Loop
The Hagg Lake Loop is a
roller coaster ride,
28 miles long, and is rated
"Difficult"
Pick a sunny day, pack a lunch and a towel,
and start at Cafe Bouchee on the corner of Main Street and Pacific Avenue.
Head west on Pacific, passing the school on your right. As you go down the
hill, you're on Ritchey Rd.
Turn left on Stringtown Rd. Follow it to
Dilley Rd. and turn right. Turn right again when Dilley intersects with Hwy
47. Stay on the right side of the road. (There is a wide shoulder) for 0.1
mile until making a right on Old Hwy 47.
turn right on Scoggins Valley Rd. Maps of
the lake are available at the entry booth. the loop around the lake is about
10 miles.
Finish your loop by crossing the dam, and
backtracking to Forest Grove via Scoggins Valley Rd. and Hwy 47.
